1956 Fleischmann No.232 Blacksmith At Anvil in Original Box

1956 Fleischmann No.232 Blacksmith At Anvil in Original Box

Steam powered Blacksmith At Anvil manufactured by Fleischmann. Catalog No. 232 was produced from 1951 to 1969. This example was the third version produced by the company. In VG+ to excellent condition and complete with original box.

Different materials were used to produce specific parts of the toy. The base is enameled pressed steel. The Fleischmann decal was applied to the top front of the base and is complete. The underside was stamped "made in West Germany". The clockwork housing and gears are tinplate, anvil is pressed steel, and large black spoke wheel with silver handle is wooden. The hammer is also metal, probably steel.

The blacksmith's body, head, and legs are composition material. Most likely compressed sawdust mixed with glue which was then hand painted. It's very fragile. The arms are painted tinplate. The blacksmith is attached to the metal base with its original screw and rubber washer.

Movement of the side wheel causes the blacksmith to raise his right arm, which is automatically released to strike the anvil. It repeats continuously.

The two piece box was laminated with a fine green cross-hatching over its entire surface. It has its original Fleishmann sticker and is identified only by its catalog number, 232.
